You can never really permanently run out of medals and have the only option to pay real money for them. Do not bother going for the NANO MK4 as it costs way too many medals. These are imperative to be obtained because there will be objectives for missions that require you to finish a particular mission wearing a particular armor. The Assault Armor costs 18 medals and the NANO MK1 costs 79 medals.
